Valneva – new COVID-19 vaccine

Animation showing how the vaccine is made

Valneva is a French company with a long history of vaccine development.

Probably the topic of COVID-19 pandemic and vaccinations does not need a long introduction.

We are very grateful for being able to produce this animation for Valneva. For sure, it always makes us feel good to know that such a video may help the customer achieve their goals of explaining to the public what they do and how they do it. But this time we also felt, that the video may be very important for the public itself – to help patients understand how inactivated vaccines are produced, what their benefits are, and why they are needed.

THE STYLE

This is a typical 2D animation, but this time we’ve put much more focus on nice transitions between the scenes. As the target group is the general public, we knew that, apart from the explanation part, we also need to show some ‘action’, so the viewers keep on watching. Smooth transitions always engage the viewer more.

We also kept the Valneva brand colors but also added some artistic touch with textures.

THE STORY

THE PROBLEM

Vaccines are essential for fighting pandemics.

While several COVID-19 vaccines are already available, more are needed to achieve herd immunity, treat all patient groups, and help end the pandemic.

THE SOLUTION

Inactivated vaccines have a long history of use and are among the safest types of vaccine, with possibilities for use in special target populations, such as patients with weakened immune systems. This technology is well-established and has been used to protect against many infectious diseases, like rabies, polio, hepatitis A and seasonal flu.

Valneva is an established specialty vaccine company that has successfully developed, manufactured, and commercialized vaccines.

Using this expertise and leveraging the manufacturing platform for one of its commercial products, Valneva has developed an inactivated, adjuvanted whole virus vaccine against COVID-19.

It contains the entire SARS-CoV-2 virus that is grown in dedicated cell culture, highly purified, and inactivated while preserving the native structure of the antigen. The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus cannot replicate inside human cells and therefore cannot cause illness. However, the whole virus envelope, including the spike protein, is preserved and this triggers an immune response. The immune response is further enhanced by a combination of two adjuvants, which are components of other approved vaccines.

This results in a highly purified, inactivated vaccine that neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Valneva’s COVID-19 vaccine can be stored at standard refrigerator temperatures, making it easy to distribute and deploy.

Designed and manufactured in-house by Valneva, VLA2001 is a whole virus, inactivated, adjuvanted vaccine candidate against COVID-19.
