Science Animation for Alfapump: What We Focused On in the Script

We began by highlighting the daily struggles faced by patients with ascites—the pain, frequent hospital visits for paracentesis, and emotional weight of the condition. To connect with viewers, we used empathy-driven storytelling rooted in real-life experiences, setting the stage for the solution.

After establishing the problem, we shifted the focus to the solution: the alfapump. This discreet, battery-powered device sits under the skin and automatically removes ascitic fluid, giving patients more freedom. It helps them get back to their lives—climbing stairs, enjoying meals, and spending time with loved ones.

Science Animation for Alfapump: How We Visualized the Technology

We chose clean, flat 2D vector graphics to humanize the science and make it easy to understand. A calm color palette and gentle motion style aligned with the topic’s sensitivity.

Instead of leaning on technical diagrams, we brought in narrative metaphors—showing how repeated hospital visits drain energy from patients, and how the alfapump restores ease and dignity. This visual storytelling approach helped viewers connect emotionally while understanding the clinical value—in under two minutes.

Who Produced Alfapump’s Science Video?

The animation was created by Life Science Animation, a studio specializing in explaining complex biotech and medtech innovations through engaging, easy-to-understand videos.

We worked closely with the Alfapump team to ensure scientific accuracy, emotional resonance, and visual clarity—meeting the needs of both internal stakeholders and external audiences.

Behind the Scenes: Science Animation for Alfapump

The Alfapump video came with some surprisingly deep narrative challenges. In early script reviews, one internal stakeholder asked:

“If the DSR infusate works, why would I undergo the burden of implanting the alfapump on top?”

That single question reshaped our entire storytelling approach. We rebuilt the script around a “good → better → best” progression, showing how Alfapump not only manages ascites but also minimizes hospital visits, making it the most sustainable solution long-term.

Midway through production, the regulatory team requested a change to a single word in the voiceover. Updating that line required re-recording the voice, syncing timings across two languages, and updating subtitle files. We coordinated it all within days to keep the timeline intact.

And even after delivery, we noticed the wrong version—missing sound effects and music—had gone live. We quickly flagged it, and the correct version was published, restoring the emotional tone we intended

The Impact of the Final Video

The science animation for Alfapump was used on the company’s website and in presentations to patients, investors, and medical professionals. It helped simplify the device’s function and benefits. As a result, the video received over 200,000 views on YouTube alone.
