In this science animation for INmune Bio and Imeka, we explain how white matter degeneration is a key early event in neurodegenerative diseases. Axons, insulated by myelin, form white matter tracts that allow efficient neuron communication. However, immune cells can trigger neurodegeneration, stripping myelin, breaking down synapses, and ultimately causing irreversible neuron death.
INmune Bio is developing XPro1595, a therapy designed to treat white matter pathology by reducing neuroinflammation, promoting remyelination, and restoring axonal function. Imeka’s cutting-edge MRI technology enables precise measurement of white matter integrity, tracking changes in axons, myelin, and inflammation. Early clinical data suggest that XPro1595 improves white matter health in Alzheimer’s patients, offering hope for more effective neurodegenerative disease treatments.
