Behind the Scenes of the GenScript mRNA Animation
Biotech explainer videos don’t need to be generic. In fact, our recent project—the GenScript mRNA animation—was anything but. It tackled complex RNA science, tight timelines, and creative problem-solving. Here’s how we brought it all to life.
What the mRNA Animation Needed to Show
GenScript is a global biotech company advancing mRNA technologies. Their circular RNA platform improves RNA stability and translation, while their lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) ensure precise delivery with fewer side effects.
Our task? Make all of that understandable in under 90 seconds.
The GenScript mRNA animation explains:
- How circular RNA resists degradation better than linear RNA
- How it still translates proteins without needing a 5’ cap
- How LNPs protect the payload and guide it to target cells
It’s cutting-edge science—but without clear communication, it risks being overlooked.
Script and Storyboarding
We started with a plain-language kickoff call. From there, our writer drafted a script that translated dense biology into simple, visual storytelling.
The challenge? Clarifying details like exon and intron placement in the precursor molecule. With feedback from GenScript’s technical team, we refined it line by line.
Each revision brought us closer to a script that could serve both scientists and non-experts.
Design Challenges in the GenScript mRNA Animation
Visualizing RNA degradation turned out to be tricky. Exonucleases aren’t just blobs—they have directionality. We got creative and adapted a ribosome model to stand in for the exonuclease, ensuring it behaved accurately on screen.
We also faced practical design tasks:
-
Adjusting background colors around the logo
-
Removing the audio track due to licensing constraints
-
Managing feedback efficiently with clear deadlines
Everything had to stay on brand, on message, and on time.
Managing Feedback and Timelines During the GenScript mRNA Animation
To avoid delays, we shared a detailed Instagantt schedule with the client. This helped us plan around upcoming holidays and kept everyone aligned.
Quick communication made the difference. Even when scenes needed reworking, we moved fast—and kept quality high,
Final Result: The GenScript mRNA Animation in Action
Today, the GenScript mRNA animation helps explain their technology at conferences, in investor meetings, and online. It captures attention and builds understanding—exactly what a good animation should do.
