🎬 Behind the Scenes of the SelectMDx Animation for Diagnostic Test

At Life Science Animation, we help biotech and diagnostics companies explain complex science in ways that spark understanding and trust. One standout collaboration was with Mdxhealth, a precision diagnostics company advancing the early detection of aggressive prostate cancer.

This “behind the scenes” story dives into how we produced a custom animation for diagnostic test — specifically for SelectMDx, a test designed to help determine prostate cancer risk. More than just an animation, it became a lesson in adapting to scientific detail, brand precision, and shifting client needs.

🧩 Animation for Diagnostic Test: Adapting Science into Story

The first challenge? Translating the clinical purpose of SelectMDx into something simple, visual, and memorable — without losing scientific credibility.

We received well-prepared technical materials and immediately identified two major communication hurdles:

  • PSA scores alone were not enough to guide decisions.
  • Biopsies could still miss existing cancer.

Using that foundation, we created a visual language and voiceover that positioned SelectMDx as the bridge between uncertainty and clarity — empowering patients and physicians with actionable insight.

To ensure accuracy, we built a detailed storyboard and asked the client team to leave comments slide by slide using Google tools. This made collaboration smooth while saving email overhead.

🎨 Design Consistency and Brand Precision

Halfway through the process, an unexpected detail arose: the client wanted to ensure that all animations, including future ones, would maintain the same design language and voiceover tone.

We adapted the current visuals and designboard to align with that new continuity — down to typography, scene transitions, and voice artist matching.

“Please match the same design and voice as the SelectMDx video.”

This mid-stream brand refinement didn’t slow us down. Instead, we used scenes from the original project as visual references to ensure a unified brand experience across their diagnostic portfolio.

🤝 Feedback Loops and Project Ownership

As with most scientific animations, multiple stakeholders were involved — and timelines fluctuated. Still, we structured the process to allow for asynchronous feedback, enabling Mdxhealth to comment directly inside slide decks, rather than sifting through email threads.

Specific edits such as:

  • Adding scientific references to the closing slide,
  • Replacing a dash with a range symbol (“3–10 ng/mL”),
  • And including trademark symbols on branding visuals

…were all integrated seamlessly without disrupting the flow of production.

💡 What This Project Shows About Animation for Diagnostic Test

This project wasn’t “just another explainer.” It required brand alignment, clinical accuracy, and flexibility across teams. Here’s what future clients should know about our approach:

  • We welcome changes mid-process and integrate them without cost surprises.
  • We offer structure but stay agile — every feedback round is collaborative, not bureaucratic.
  • We help your diagnostic test stand out while staying true to science.
