The Problem

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection. It’s highly unpleasant. It can dramatically lower quality of life. And it increases the risk of infertility, pregnancy complications, preterm birth, and sexually transmitted diseases like HIV or HPV.

The worst part? Despite treatment, BV often comes back. 60% recurrence within 6 months. Many women suffer from chronic BV for years.

Current treatments rely on broad-spectrum antibiotics. But antibiotics aren’t specific to the bacteria causing the problem. They also destroy the good bacteria. And they can’t penetrate the biofilm where the bad bacteria hide.

Women are left devastated. The standard of care is failing them.

The Science

BV is caused by an imbalance in the vaginal microbiome. Virulent Gardnerella bacteria form a biofilm on the vaginal epithelial cells. They push out the beneficial Lactobacilli. Antibiotics can’t reach them.

PhagoMed is developing the first precision vaginal therapy using endolysins โ€” small proteins derived from phages, the natural enemies of bacteria.

Their lead candidate PM-477 is highly bactericidal for Gardnerella. But it’s completely inactive on beneficial bacteria. It even destroys biofilms from patients with chronic BV who couldn’t be cured with antibiotics.

PM-477 works where antibiotics fail. More precise. Better safety profile. A real solution.

Why Animation Works Here

I live in Poland, where phage therapies have been popular for decades โ€” especially during communism when Western antibiotics weren’t available. We’ve produced several animations explaining phage-based treatments.

But this project was special.

Women’s health is one of those topics investors often forget. Or avoid. They’re not comfortable with the specifics. That’s exactly why animation works so well here.

You can show sensitive topics in a way that’s easy to understand. No awkwardness. Just clear science.

An animation lets investors focus on the mechanism โ€” not their discomfort. It turns “I’d rather not think about this” into “Now I get why this matters.”

Because a healthy vagina is key to women’s health and healthy pregnancies. And that’s worth investing in.
