The science
In this video for The University of Aberdeen (https://www.abdn.ac.uk/), we explain how aging impacts muscle strength.
Muscles are made up of fibers controlled by motor neurons, which activate to generate force. As we age, the number of fast-twitch fibers declines, making movements more difficult. This loss in muscle power is a key reason why simple tasks feel more complicated with age. However, strength training can help keep both slow- and fast-twitch fibers active, preserving muscle function and making everyday activities easier, regardless of age.
